Activities of Daily Living and Life Satisfaction of the Elderly

Abstract

|
In this study, the level of activities of daily living (ADL) and life satisfaction (LS) of the elderly were investigated to develop strategies for the elderly. The survey was conducted for 113 elders in G city and M city in Korea from October to December, 2000. Data analysis was carried out using SPSS win 8.0 package.
The results show that mean score of ADL is 47.7 and that of LS is 46.6. The level of ADL showed that there were significant difference in age, occupation, income. LS was significantly different according to age, education background, type of living with family, income. Therefore, level of ADL was positively correlated to LS. These findings had showed that nursing intervention strategies to increase activities of daily living of the elderly should be developed to improve their life satisfaction.
